Johnson and Passeck Register Four Points vs. Poly

SUNY Poly used a big 2nd quarter as they downed Alfred State 19-7 in a mixture of rain, sun, and wind on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats went on a 6-0 run in the 2nd quarter as they were able to build on their early lead.

The Wildcats jumped out of the gate and scored two quick goals as Chase LaCava and Shane Wyman found the back of the net just 1:52 into the contest. Eric Passeck (Thomaston, CT) got the Pioneers on the board after getting a pass from AJ Soto (Churchville) just over four minutes into the game. LaCava scored his second of the day followed by Passeck's second to make it a one goal game once again. Edward Rosaschi scored with 14 seconds left to make it 4-2 after 15 minutes.

Nick Griffin (Penn Yan) scored his first of the season 3:23 into the 2nd quarter after getting a pass from Passeck to make it 4-3 but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer as SUNY Poly tallied the next six scores. Joe Johnson (Churchville) stopped the run with a tally to send the game into half 10-4.

Nic Covelli (Carmel) and Tucker Sutphen (Brockport) scored for the Pioneers in the 3rd but the Wildcats outscored the Alfred State 5-2. Johnson scored his second of the game and 20th of the season in the 4th but the Pioneers could not put together a rally.

The Pioneers were led by Johnson and Passeck. Both had a pair of goals and assists. Griffin, Sutphen and Covelli also pitched in a goal.

The Wildcat were led by Chase LaCava who tallied five goals and was credited with one assist. Shane Wyman had four goals while Charles Rosaschi and Edward Rosaschi each recorded hat tricks. Jake Elliot led the team with eight ground balls to go along with a pair of goals and assists.

Alfred State was outshot 53-24 in the contest and was slowed down by 24 turnovers. Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 19 saves for the blue & gold while Samuel Rubin earned the win with four saves.

The Pioneers are home again on Wednesday when they battle Elmira at Pioneer Stadium at 6 p.m.
