Alfred, NY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss to SUNY Delhi, 12-6. The Pioneers move to 5-8 on the season.
Joseph Tiberio led the way for the Pios as he scored three goals.
Mike Coburn and Matthew Brigdes tallied a goal and two assists each.
Matthew Burris took the loss as tallied 16 saves.
The Broncos got on the board first as they scored two goals in the first quarter and one goal in the second quarter to take the 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Delhi opened the second half with a goal. The Pioneers answered with a Tiberio goal off a
Matthew Bridges assist to cut into the deficit. The Broncos followed with back-to-back goals to make it a 6-1 game. Tiberio answered with his second goal of the game 40 seconds later off a
Brendon O'Donnell pass. Then 20 seconds later, Bridges found the back of the net to make it a 6-3 game. The Broncos went to score one more goal before the end of the quarter for the 7-3 lead.
The Pioneers got the fourth quarter started fast as Tiberio netted his third goal of the game in the first ten seconds of the quarter. A few minutes later,
Mike Coburn scored a goal to cut the Delhi lead down to two, 7-5. The Broncos would score four straight goals to take full control of the game, as went on to win 12-6.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, April 17 as they take on the Hawks at Hilbert at 2 pm.
