Pioneers Season Comes To A Close In HCLC Tournament

Louisville, KY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking loss in a back and four battle against Hanover, 14-11.

Matthew Bridges led the way as he scored six goals. Joseph Tiberio tallied four goals and two assists. Ryan Batson picked up a team high five ground balls. Matthew Burris had an impressive day in goal as he came away with 15 saves.

Hanover took the early lead as they scored two early goals. Tiberio answered with a goal to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. The Panthers scored three more goals before Tiberio found the back of the net with about 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Hanover scored one more goal before the quarter break for the 6-2 lead.

The second quarter got started with a Panthers goal, Matthew Bridges answered with back-to-back goals to make it a 7-4 game. A few minutes later, Tiberio netted his third and fourth goals of the game to make it a one goal game, 7-6. Hanover scored one more goal before the quarter expired to take the 8-6 lead into halftime.

The Panthers scored two goals throughout the third quarter, and ASC got a man-up goal from Bridges in the final minute of the quarter.

The Pioneers got their offense going in the fourth quarter. Bridges opened the quarter with a man-up goal to make it a 10-8 game. After a goal by the Panthers, Bridges and Mike Coburn netted back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to one, 11-10. HC extended their lead back to two with a goal, 12-10. Bridges would score his sixth goal of the game to cut the lead down to one, but the Pioneers could not get any closer as they fell 14-11.

The Pioneers end the season with a 7-9 overall record.
