The Alfred State lacrosse team fell behind early and never could recover as they fell 20-6 to Monroe CC on a blustery Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Pioneers end the season with a 4-8 record.
The Tribunes led 7-2 after the 1st, 13-3 at half, and 17-4 after the 3rd.
Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) netted a hat trick and finishes the season with a team high 26 goals. Frank Martin (Whitney Point) and Brandon Griffin (Corning East) each had a goal and an assist while Dave Ford (Elmont/Sewanhaka) found the back of the net once.
Mike Alessi (Liverpool) made 11 saves in net in the first three quarters. Paul Duthoy (Brockport) made three saves and Samuel Chambers (Memphis/Jordan Elbridge) made four saves in the 4th.
The Pioneers needed to defeat the Tribunes to have a chance to qualify for the Region III Tournament. The loss drops the blue & gold to 3-4 in Region III West action and puts the team in 5th place with the top four advancing to the Regionals.
