Box Score Du Bois, PA- The Alfred State Softball team dropped their first game in playoffs against the #6 seed, Mount Aloysius, 5-2.
Sophia Petrie saw the mound for today's match-up where she recorded six strikeouts, while allowing four walks and five runs. At the plate,
Nicole Youngberg,
Liana Dion and
Abbie Millard all went 1-3, with Youngberg tallying the only RBI of the day.
The Mounties would hit the board first, at the top of the second inning as they plated two runs. The Pioneers were eager to battle back, where in the bottom of the fourth, Dion smacked a ball to the outfield which advanced Millard. Dion then advanced on the throw but got caught in a pickle which allowed Millard to score, 2-1.
The game stayed at a standstill until the sixth inning when Mount Aloysius opened the gate and grabbed three more runs to give them a bigger lead, 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, Youngberg tripled to right center to score the last run of the game. The Pioneers could not find anymore life in their bats as the Mounties held them to a 5-2 win.
With this loss, ASC has now dropped to the loser's bracket and now faces the #4 seed, Pitt-Bradford tomorrow morning. First pitch is set to be thrown at 11 am.
