Pioneer Athletes Of The Week

Alfred, NY- This week's Pioneer Athletes of the Week are Emily Richardson (Women's Track & Field) and Sean Malenfant (Men's Wrestling).

Emily Richardson (Hilton, NY, Hilton) had a great opening day to the year. In the women's high jump, Richardson made school history, clearing 1.63 meters to claim first place, with that mark she also became an AARTFC qualifier. She was also apart of the 4x200 relay team that finished fifth with a time of 1:53.23

Sean Malenfant (Averill Park, NY, Averill Park) tallied five falls on his way to winning the bracket. On Friday, he took down Sam Tignor (WL), and Julian Schott (Mary) with second round falls. Then in the quarterfinals, he notched a 2:46 fall over Jake Gross (URSI) to advance to day two in the champion's bracket. On day two, he took down Luke Theis (TCNJ) in 2:16 to move to the first- place match. In the finals match he notched a 1:44 fall over Xavier Pommells (Ithaca) to take the 184 championship title.
