Box Score Cresson, PA- The Alfred State baseball team took down top seeded Mt. Aloysius 11-2, to advance on the winner's side of the bracket.
Ryan Bailey got the start and the win after pitching 9.0 innings, only allowing one earned run on five hits, with five strikeouts. Tyler Korsky went 3-4 on the day with an RBI, while Joshua Gardner, Tyler Petery, and Anthony Snyder came away with two RBIs each.
The Pioneers got on the board first in their first at-bat. Gardner led off with a single then Elijah Barinas got walked. Korsky followed with an RBI single through the left side for the 1-0 lead. A few plays later, Barinas would score on an error for the 2-0 lead.
After a few scoreless innings, the Pios tallied nine runs in the fifth to take complete control of the game. Caleb Walker, Connor Kiefer, and Snyder got walked to lead off the inning. Devin Mersmann then stepped to the plate a notched an RBI after getting hit by a pitch. With the bases still loaded, Garnder came away with an RBI single for the 4-1 lead. Barinas then got an RBI on a hit by pitch.
After a change in pitchers, Petery notched a two RBI single to right field for the 8-1 lead. After another hit by pitch to load the bases, Synder came away with a two RBI double for the 10-1 lead. Â Then back-to-back walks gave the Pioneers the 11-1 lead.
The Mounties were able to get another run across in the bottom of the seventh but could not get any closer as Alfred State won 11-2. The Pioneers will return to the field tomorrow at 10 am for a matchup against Penn State Behrend.
