Box Score Alfred, NY- The Alfred State baseball picked up the 12-11 win over Fredonia in walk off fashion. This was the final game of the regular season, the Pioneers finished the season 15-23 for fourth in the conference to host a game at home this weekend.
Zachary Morse got the start and pitched 4.2 innings. Ryan Kinney came in relief and pitched 2.1 innings with five strikeouts. Chris Baldwin also came in relief to pick up the win. Jack Curabba went 4-5 on the day with four RBIs and a double.
After the Blue Devils scored two runs in the first, the Pioneers scored three runs to take the lead. Tyler Petery led off with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Tyler Korsky notched a single down the right field line. Jack Curabba followed with an RBI double to left center. Korsky would score on a RBI groundout from Caleb Walker to tie the game at 2-2. Then an RBI double from Connor Kiefer gave the Pioneers the 3-2 lead.
Later in the third, ASC added two more runs to their lead. Elijah Barinas led off with a single up the middle, then stole second and went to third on an error. Barinas came home to score on a single up the middle by Curabba to make it a 5-2 game.
Then in the fourth, the Pios added four runs to their lead. Aidan Murphy got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Then two batters later, Petery got walked and Barinas followed with an RBI single to left center. Korsky would then notch a single to load the bases and the Pios scored a run on a wild pitch. Curabba would then tally a two RBI single to make it a 9-2 game.
The Blue Devils then tallied six runs throughout the fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead down to 9-8. The Pioneers got back on the board with two runs in the seventh. Walker got walked to leadoff the at-bat, then stole second a few pitches later. After a change of pitchers, Devin Mersmann notched an RBI single up the middle for the 10-8 lead. Mersmann would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Mersmann would score on an RBI sacrifice fly from Murphy to make it an 11-8 game.
Fredonia scored two runs in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit down to 11-10. Then they tied the game at 11-11 in the top of the ninth. Joshua Gardener reached on an error and went to second on the throw. The Blue Devils walked Barinas and Korsky followed with the walkoff single.
