Pioneers Split Season Finale

Alfred State and Pitt-Bradford split a season ending Mother's Day doubleheader. The Pioneers took the opener 3-2 while the Panthers rallied for a 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, Alfred State struck for three runs in the 1st inning and Conner Odonoghue (Avon) made it stand. Thomas Shofi (Carmel) doubled home a run to get the Pioneers on the board. Rafael Perozo (Bronx/St. Raymond) and Dan Woodward (Honeoye) followed with RBI singles to give the blue & gold the early lead. 

The Panthers scored single runs in the 2nd and 6th but could not get the equalizer. 

Odonoghue allowed seven hits and two runs to earn his third victory of the season. He didn't walk a batter while striking out three. Woodward was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.

The Pioneers got on the board in the 1st again in the nightcap on a RBI ground out by Shofi. Andrew Ball (Tonawanda) made it 2-0 with a RBI single in the 2nd.

After Pitt-Bradford scored three in the 3rd to take their first lead of the day, Alfred State plated four runs in the 4th to take back the lead. Ball and Robert Cardona (Harlem/All Hallows) drove in runs on bases loaded hit by pitches and Pedro Mora (Manhattan/AP Randolph) followed with a two-run single. Danny Doran (Irondequoit) collected a RBI single in the 5th to make it 7-3 but the Panthers sent ten batters to the plate and scored five runs. Bradford collected four hits and took advantage of two Pioneer errors. 

The Pioneers had the tying run on base in both the 6th and 7th but was unable to plate the tying run.

Nick Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) was 2 for 3 in his final game at Alfred State while Jesse Swan (Campbell Savona) was 2 for 2.

Padley, Odonoghue, Kyle Sickau (Hamburg), and Michael English (Livonia) were all honored in between games as they wrapped up their playing career at Alfred State.

The Pioneers finish the season 14-25 for the second consecutive season. The blue & gold finished the season winning 12 of their last 19 games.
