Game Notes:

  • The Pioneers and Sabercats meet for the first time. Alfred State fell 69-8 at Kentucky Wesleyan while Maranatha fell 29-16 to Finlandia last week. Both teams play an independent DIII schedule and are two of the newest football playing teams in DIII.
  • Alfred State will look to get both phases of the offense going. The Pioneers rushed for a season high 75 yards last week but only managed 48 yards passing. The trio of Joshua Hinds, Tyrel Marshall, and quarterback Ben Wilkerson will look to get going vs. the Sabercats defense that is allowing just over 233 yards rushing per game. Hinds leads the team with 186 yards rushing on the season.
  • Maranatha Baptist is averaging 237.4 yards passing on the year. Tanner Carrillo has passed for 1,662 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season. His favorite target is Clayton Morrison. Morrison has 40 catches for 507 yards and 6 TD's.
  • The Pioneers kick returning team has had success in recent weeks. Khris Greggs has 533 yards on 25 returns, Romiio Littlejohn has 336 yards on 16 returns, and Chris Monteiro has 222 yards on 18 returns.
  • Ben Schulz leads the Sabercats with 97 tackles while Joshua Hill has two sacks.
  • John Lauretti led the Pioneers with nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble last week. He now has the 4th most tackles for Alfred State with 42 on the season. 8.5 of his tackles are for a loss.
  • The Pioneer defense will look to make a difference in the game. They will look to add to their three interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries, and six sacks on the season. The defense has scored one touchdown on the season.
  • Alfred State offense has been slowed down by 27 sacks this season. The team also is averaging 71.6 yards in penalties through eight games.
  • Maranatha has a -2 turnover margin and is allowing 45.7% conversion rate on 3rd downs.
  • Zack Goodwin continues to be key in the field position game. He has punted 61 times on the season and is averaging 33.8 on the year. Five of his punts were for 50 or more yards and five were inside the opponents 20.
  • Maranatha will travel just over 700 miles from Watertown, WI for the game.
