Alfred State and SUNY ESF battled back and forth in a tight contest that came down to the wire with the Might Oaks claiming the 81-75 victory. ESF improves to 6-10 on the year.
SUNY ESF led most of the contest but could never shake the Pioneers. The Oaks led 30-28 at half and led by as many as 11 but the Pioneers cut the lead to 74-71 with less than 30 seconds remaining. ESF who struggled most of the day from the foul line hit 7 of their final 8 attempts to seal the victory.
Suthod Young led the Might Oaks with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Danny MacElrath added 13, Sage Beemer chipped in 11, and Ryan Caldwell came off the bench and finished with 10.
Adam Fezza (Southhampton) led the Pioneers with 18 points and seven boards. He finished 4 from 8 from three-point land. Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) added 11 points and seven boards, and Thomas Stein (Caledonia Mumford) added 10 points.
ESF shot 44.9% from the field and was 10 for 22 from beyond the three-point arc. The Pioneers shot 39.4% from the field and was 7 for 23 from thee. Alfred State held a 44 fo 39 advantage on the boards but was slowed down by 20 turnovers.
The Pioneers have a week off before heading to SUNY Canton next Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off with the Kangaroos.
