Altoona, PA- Alfred State men's basketball team took a loss to the Penn St. Altoona Lions 103-68. The Pioneers fell to 3-20 on the season.
Michael Miller shot lights out for the Pioneers as he had 30 points while shooting 10-14 from the field and 3-4 from downtown. Miller also had eight rebounds to go along with those buckets.
Eli Taft followed up with 13 points of his own.
The first couple of minutes were a slow start for the Pioneers. However, Miller put them up on the board with a layup five minutes into the action. After some time, Darius Cunnigham notched a triple followed by a
Dylan Perry triple.
The Pios entered the halftime break looking for momentum as Miller closed it off with a tip-in layup to bring the score to 42-21, Lions lead.
Kicking off the second half, Miller would not let up as he continued to fight for his team to get back in it. Just three minutes in, Miller scored two layups along with a shot from behind the arc. As time went along Alfred continued trying to chip at the lead. At 13:29, Avery Cunnigham made a layup off a D. Cunningham dime. This was immediately followed by a Miller triple to bring the score to 68-39.
Pios continued to trail for the rest of the final half as they could not bridge the gap. Pioneers ended up dropping 103-68.
The Pioneers next matchup will be in Erie, PA where they will face off against Penn St. Behrend. Tip-off will be on Wednesday, February 19 at 7pm.
