Pioneers Rush Past Mechanics

Box Score

The Alfred State football team rushed for 328 yards as they blanked Williamson Trade 48-0 to earn their second straight victory.  The Pioneer defense was very stingy as well holding the Mechanics to just 54 total yards.

After having their first drive stopped on a goal line interception, Rasheed Williams (Swedesboro, NJ) gave the Pioneers the lead just under four minutes into the game when he scampered in from 15-yards out.

Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) made it 14-0 four minutes later when he blocked a punt and returned it seven yards for the score.

Greg Hampton (Uniondale) connected with Devin Simmons (Elmira Free) on a 26-yard pass play on the blue & gold's next drive to make it 20-0 toward the close of the 1st quarter.

Daygan Gardner (Rosepine, LA) made in 27-0 heading into halftime when he dove in from two yards out with 13:40 remaining.

Williams would add two more touchdown runs early in the 3rd quarter to make it 41-0. Williams scored from 1-yard out with 10:55 left and raced in from 57-yards with 7:39 remaining.

Jordan Sealey (Lockport) capped the scoring with 6:11 remaining in the 3rd quarter when he took a handoff and went 55-yards for a score.

The Pioneers benefited from great field position all day.  The team had a average drive start of their own 45.  Danny Napolionello (Valley Stream) was key to the great field position early with solid punt returns.  He set up the first and third scores with returns of 32 and 23 yards. Brett Harrington (Rochester/Edison) set up another score with a 38-yard return.

All six of the Pioneers offensive scoring drives were less than four plays and took no longer than 2:17 off the clock.

Williams led the way with 135 yards and three scores on just seven carries.  He has now rushed for over 100 yards in three straight games.  Gardner finished with 78 yards while Sealey had 67.

The Pioneer defense held Williamson Trade to -24 yards rushing and sacked the Mechanics six times.  Jerome Thomas (Buffalo/McKinley) recorded three sacks while Nick DePofi (Union Endicott) had two.

Dylan Snyder (Penn Yan) led the defense with five tackles and Tyler Sanders (Pioneer) picked off a pass.

The blue & gold (2-3) have next weekend off before hosting NJCAA rival Erie CC on October 19th at Pioneer Stadium.  Opening kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
