Bradford, PA – The Alfred State women's soccer team put together a dominant offensive performance on Wednesday evening, defeating Pitt.-Bradford 6-1. The Pioneers improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
Isabella Hoffmann powered the Pioneer attack with a career-high four goals and an assist, while
Kaitlyn Howell added a goal and an assist.
Alyssa Turner also found the back of the net, while
Regan Curabba recorded an assist. Hoffmann and Howell combined for three goals and three assists in the victory.
The Pioneers came out with pressure from the start, earning multiple corner kicks and creating several early scoring opportunities. After a few shots on goal in the opening 11 minutes, Hoffmann broke the silence in the 12th minute, finishing a pass from Curabba to give Alfred State a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers continued to control the offense throughout the remainder of the first half. Howell doubled the lead in the 30th minute when she finished on a pass from Hoffmann, and just over a minute later, Turner found the back of the net to push the advantage to 3-0. The Pioneers carried the three-goal lead into halftime after out shooting Pitt.-Bradford 10-1 and earning six corner kicks in the opening half.
The Pioneers picked up right where they left off after halftime. Hoffmann added her second goal of the night in the 54th minute, on an assist from Howell to extend the lead to 4-0. Pitt.-Bradford found the back of the net with a goal in the 59th minute, but Alfred State continued to create chances and maintain pressure.
Alfred State was not done yet and closed the game with another offensive surge. After Howell hit the crossbar in the 74th minute and Hoffmann banked it off the woodwork just minutes later, Hoffmann found the back of the net twice in the final 10 minutes to complete her four-goal performance and give the Pioneers a 6-1 lead.
The Pioneers finished the night with a 20-8 advantage in shots and held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks. Alfred State also held Pitt.-Bradford without a shot in the first half, while
Madeline Cox and
Savannah Picha split time in goal, with Picha making three saves in the second half.
The Pioneers return to action back on the home turf Saturday, September 19
th when they take on The Cortland Red Dragons. Kickoff is scheduled for 4PM.
