Alfred, NY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team took down the Soaring Eagles 13-12 in their regular season finale. The Pioneers end the regular season with a 7-8 record.
Brendon O'Donnell led the way as he tallied four goals and two assists.
Mike Coburn added three goals, while
Matthew Bridges and
Joseph Pritchard tallied two goals each.
Matthew Burris got the win in goal as he racked up 15 saves.
Coburn opened the game with a goal. Elmira answered with three straight goals before Bridges netted a goal as time expired in the first quarter to make it a 3-2 game.
In the second quarter the Pioneers scored five goals to regain the lead.
Brady Nugent scored the first goal. Then after an Eagles goal, O'Donnell netted back-to-back goals to take the lead. Pritchard and Coburn added to the Pioneers lead with a goal each, 7-4.
Elmira regained the lead in the third after netting five goals. The Pios fought back in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Batson tied the game in the opening minutes of the fourth off an O'Donnell assist. Bridges followed with his 50
th goals of the year to take the 11-10 lead. After some back-to-back action, O'Donnell scored the game winning goal to get the Pios the 13-12 lead.
The Pioneers would hold off Elmira's attack to secure the win. The Pios will return to action this weekend as they travel to Kentucky for the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament. The will take on Hanover on Saturday, April 25 at 7 pm.
