Alfred State Fall Short Against La Roche

Pittsburgh, PA- The Alfred State women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss against La Roche, 6-5. The Pioneers fall to 8-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Katerina Strong led the Pioneers offensive attack as she scored four goals. Alaina Gernatt added a goal and an assist. Maeve Runyon suffered the loss in goal after tallying three saves.

La Roche opened the game with an early goal to take the 1-0 lead. The Pioneers answered in the second quarter, as Gernatt found an open Strong to tie the game at 1-1. The Redhawks would score back-to-back goals to regain the 3-1 lead. Then with a little under eight minutes left in the quarter, Gernatt found to the back of the net to cut the deficit down to 3-2. A few minutes later, Strong tied the game with a free position goal. LRC went on to score two more goals in the final minutes of the quarter to take the 5-3 lead into the halftime break.

The Pioneers controlled the third quarter as Strong scored her 34th goal of the season to make it a 5-4 game. A few minutes later, Strong found the net again off of a Kari Annunziato pass to tie the tie at 5-5.

The Redhawks regained the lead in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter. The Pios had some good looks in the final moments of fourth, but none were able to find the back of the net, and the Redhawks went on to win 6-5.

The Pioneers will return home for senior night  on Tuesday April 14th as they are set to take on Pitt-Bradford at 7 pm.
