Brevard, N.C.- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team took a dominating win over Brevard College, 28-8. The Pioneers improve to 2-4 on the season
Matthew Bridges delivered a dominant performance, tallying eight goals and two assists while collecting eight ground balls.
Griffin Doan added seven goals and three assists to go along with seven ground balls.
Brendon O'Donnell contributed three goals and five helpers while scooping up four ground balls. In net,
Payton Bliss was strong, turning aside 15 of 22 shots to earn the win.
The Tornados struck first, scoring just 1:25 into the game. However, following a quick faceoff win by
Regan Clancy, Tiberio found Doan for the equalizer only 20 seconds later to tie the game at 1–1. Alfred State kept the pressure on and closed the quarter on an 8–2 run, highlighted by two goals each from Doan, Bridges, O'Donnell, and Campanelli, giving the Pioneers a commanding 9–3 lead after one.
The momentum carried into the second quarter as the Pioneers wasted no time out of the break.
Brady Nugent found the back of the net just 28 seconds in to extend the lead. Brevard struggled to keep pace while Alfred State continued its offensive surge, getting three goals from Bridges, two from Tiberio, and another from Doan to take a dominant 16–6 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter opened at a slower pace, with Brevard scoring first at the 11:51 mark to make it 16–7. The teams exchanged goals midway through the quarter, and the Tornados added another with 8:13 remaining to cut the deficit to 18–8. Alfred State responded with four more goals, two from Bridges and one each from Doan and
Ryan Batson, stretching the lead to 22–8 heading into the final quarter. The Pios added on six more goals in the final frame to claim the victory, 28-8.
The Pioneers will continue their spring break road trip and face off against Oglethorpe on Friday, March 13
th for a 7pm start.
