Morrisville, NY — Alfred State men's lacrosse dropped one on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 16-6 to SUNY Morrisville in nonconference action. The Pioneers fall to 3-6 on the season.
Griffin Doan led Alfred State with three goals, while
Brendon O'Donnell recorded one goal and two assists.
Ryan Batson added a goal, and Matt Bridges contributed one goal and four ground balls.
Payton Bliss made nine saves in the loss.
The Mustangs led 5-0 after the first quarter and kept that momentum going into the second, extending the lead to 8-0 before the Pioneers got on the board. Doan scored the first Alfred State goal before Morrisville answered with two more. Doan notched his second goal, a man-up assisted by O'Donnell, and the Pioneers went into halftime trailing 10-2.
Morrisville came out strong in the third, scoring five more goals. O'Donnell closed the quarter with a goal assisted by
Joseph Tiberio, and Alfred State entered the fourth down 15-3.
The Pioneers controlled the fourth quarter and outscored Morrisville 3-1, starting with a goal from Bridges. Doan completed his hat trick with another man-up goal assisted by O'Donnell, and Batson finished the scoring for Alfred State. The Mustangs scored once more in the final minute to seal the 16-6 win.
Alfred State returns home Tuesday, March 24, to host Augustana College (Ill.) at 4 p.m.
