Pioneers Drop Heartbreaker to Keuka in Final Minutes

Keuka Park, NY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team was narrowly defeated on the road in a nail biter to Keuka College,10-9. The Pioneers fall to 3-5 on the season. 
 
Griffin Doan shined for Alfred State scoring five goals along with five ground balls. Matthew Bridges scored four goals of his own while causing two turnovers. Brady Nugent added an assist, and scooped up four ground balls. Matthew Burris made 14 saves on 24 shots in the loss. 
 
Keuka jumped out to a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the contest. Alfred State was able to respond just 43 seconds later as Doan netted a solo goal to cut the lead in half with 7:17 left in the first. Neither team scored down the stretch as the Wolves took the 2-1 lead into the second. 
 
ASC stormed back at the start of the second quarter, scoring three unanswered goals from Doan and Bridges to put the Pios into a 4-3 lead with 3:58 left in the half. Despite the momentum, Keuka went on a three-goal run of their own in the last three minutes. Although, Doan was able to nab a goal back with 21 seconds remaining as the Pioneers trailed 6-5 at the half. 
 
The Wolves found their rhythm in the third quarter, shutting out the Alfred State offense as they scored three goals to build onto their lead, taking a 9-5 advantage into the final frame. The Pios mounted their comeback in the fourth as Bridges scored three unanswered, and Doan scoring on the man up opportunity with 2:07 to go. Tying the game at 9-9. Despite the effort, Keuka was able to find the game winner with 1:17 left on the clock, as Alfred State fell 10-9. 
 
The Pioneers continue on the road on Saturday, March 21st as they take on SUNY Morrisville for a 1pm start.
