Alfred, NY- The Alfred State men's wrestling team went 2-2 on the day as they hosted the AMCC Duals. The Pioneers took down Penn State Altoona 60-0 and Pitt-Bradford 34-22.
The Pioneers opened the day with a 60-0 win over PSU Altoona. In the 165 bout,
Christian Warren notched a 3:18 fall over Gonzalo Santana Hernandez.
Keeran Timerman followed with a first round fall over Andrew Weaver in 40 seconds in the 184 match. The Pioneers also tallied eight forfeit wins to take the match 60-0.
In the third match of the day the Pioneers took down Pitt-Bradford 34-22.
Xavier Vargas opened the dual with an 18-5 tech fall win over Cade Stern. After dropping the 133 bout, the Pios regained the lead with a
Richard Morales first-round fall over Elias Salloum, 11-6. The Panthers took the 149 match to make it an 11-10 dual score.
Owen Cummings then took the 157 match over Ray Worsen by tech fall. Warren followed with his second fall of the day to win the 165 match over Peyton Mitchell in 2:01, for the 22-10 lead. After suffering a loss in the 174 match, Timerman and
Sean Malenfant tallied a forfeit win each to make it a 34-16 match score. Bradford won the 285 match but the Pioneers won the dual 34-22. With the win in this match Malenfant became the new career wins leader in Program history as it was his 118
th career win.
In the Dual against PSU Behrend, The Pios dropped the first two bouts, but
Tyler Zwald won the 141 match in a 4-3 decision over Cole Neil at get the Pioneers on the board. The next Pioneer win came in the 141 bout as Cummings notched a first-round fall over Hunter Waneka in 2:35. The final Pio win in the dual came in the 184 match as
Sean Malenfant notched a fall over Louie DeJulia in 4:29.
In the final dual of the day, the Pioneers took on Penn Tech. ASC tallied four wins in that dual.
Kyle Meyer and
Owen Cummings notched decision wins in their respective bouts. While,
Sean Malenfant tallied a fall over Cole Shupp and
Hunter LaVigne tallied a fall over Tyler Prince.
The Pioneers will return to action next weekend, January 17
th as the travel to Collegeville, PA for the Will Able Open.
