Pittsburgh, PA – The Alfred State women's soccer team secured a road victory against the Celtics of Carlow University 5-1. The Pioneers advance to 5-4 on the season.
Isabella Hoffmann came through with a robust performance, delivering a brace along with an assist. Karlee Hargather followed with a goal and two assists along with it.
The Pioneers spent the early parts of the first half settling into their offense as they registered nine total shots before one found the net. Hargather was the first to spark the Alfred offense as she netted a goal off a pass from Erin Drewiega in the 30th minute. Pios maintained the 1-0 margin for the remainder of the half.
The second half is where the Pioneers began to pick up the pace. After the Celtics found their way to a goal in the first minute to even the score, Alfred immediately struck back. Hargather, who was inside the box made a short pass to Hoffman for an empty netter, 2-1. On the next possession, Hoffman found her second goal as she cut through her defender and took a chip shot that reached the back of the net.
Alfred's momentum led to two more goals before the final horn. Jillian Wright received a pass from Hoffman to find the net in the 63rd minute and Maddie Mark in the 77th off a Hargather dime. These two goals sealed the deal for an ASC victory 5-1.
Pioneers will return home next to face off against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Kickoff is set for Tuesday, September 30th at 6pm.
