Alfred, NY - The Alfred State football team dominated in their homecoming matchup against the Buffalo State Bengals 56-20. This win moves Alfred State to 2-1 and marks the first time Alfred has beaten Buffalo State.

Noah Currier led the way on offense, scoring four touchdowns on the ground and two receiving. His six touchdowns tied an Empire 8 record for most touchdowns in aa game set by a Hartwick wide receiver on 9/6/2008. Currier tallied 102 yards on 11 carries while tallying 67 yards on four receptions. Justin Horvath went 15-20 for 174 yards with three touchdowns. Rafael Class notched a receiving touchdown as he pulled in three receptions for 26 yards. Josh Graham had a good day on the ground as well as he tallied 104 yards on 19 carries.

John DiBattisto led the defense with eight tackles with two going for a loss and a sack. While Conner McWilliams tallied six tackles with two sacks. Both Chris Bergman and Evan Bowen tallied a interceptions along with six tackles and five tackles, respectively.

Pioneers had early success as they went 11 plays and 66 yards on their first drive to get the 7-0 lead. After marching down the field, Currier was able to find the endzone from a 1-yard rush up the middle for a 7-0 lead. After forcing a three and out, Horvath found Currier for a 58-yard touchdown pass for the 14-0 lead. On the next Bengals drive, Bergman notched the games first interception yard line. The Pios capitalized as Horvath found Currier in the endzone to take the 21-0 lead going into the second period.  and returned the ball to the three y Pios continued to inch towards the endzone until they found it with Currier rushing 21 total yards for a TD. Mathew Terry's field goal was successful, bringing the score to 7-0 with 9:55 remaining before the second period.

Buffalo State opened period two with a touchdown. After a fake punt pass by Matthew Mancuso on a pass to Bergman that went for 21 yards extended the Pioneers drive, Currier found 9-yard rush up the middle for a touchdown and the 28-7 lead. After forcing another three and out, Horvath found class wide open on a short pass that went the distance for a touchdown to extend their lead 35-7. The Pioneers head on to that lead into halftime

The Pioneers continued to dominate on the offensive end as they scored three more touchdowns in the second half while holding the Bengals to 13 points. The Pioneers answered later in the second half with a two-play 40-yard drive that was capped by a 30-yard touchdown run by Currier. A few possessions later, Currier found the endzone for the sixth time with a five yard run that caped an eight-play 77-yard drive that extended the lead to 48-13.

Then in the fourth, Graham put the finishing touches on the game as he capped an 18 play 73-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown carry that made it a 56-13 game. The Bengals were able to score again but unable to get any closer as the Pioneers went on to win 56-20.

The Pioneers will be on the road next week as they open Empire 8 conference play taking on Utica on September 27^th at 1pm.
