Pios Bats Light Up The Scoreboard

Box Score Hamburg, NY- The Alfred State Softball team kick-started their week as they swept the Hilbert Hawks in today's exciting Monday double-header, 23-12 and 5-3. The Pioneers bats were on fire as they tacked 27 total runs onto the scoreboard.

Game 1: (23-12)
In game one, Abby Beidel notched a win on the mound for the Pios. Hailee Smith also aided Beidel with her win. Abbie Millard went 4-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Amy Campbell and Abigail Marinelli also went 3-4 with two and three RBIs respectively.

The Pios found the board first in the second inning off a Millard double to center, scoring two. After the bases were loaded, Caley Larsen drew a walk scoring another run, 3-0. ASC would go on to slate seven more runs in the top of the third. The Hawks immediately responded in the bottom of the inning, tacking on nine runs, 10-9.

The Pioneers bats did not let up as they continued to pound the ball and make their way around the bases. In the top of the fourth they added five runs that ignited off another Millard double. With no mercy, the Pios tallied an additional eight runs in the fifth inning. Trinity Scott singling to short, scoring the first of eight runs, 23-9.

Hilbert managed to snag two more runs but to no eval as ASC closed it down in the bottom of the fifth, 23-12.

Game 2: (5-3)
In game two, Marissa Ordway would start and bring home the win in the circle for the Pioneers. Ordway finished the game with six strikeouts and only allowed five hits. Larsen would go 2-2 at the plate with two RBIs.

The Pios momentum followed them into the second game as they hopped on the board in the first inning. Larsen smacked a single to right field, scoring Campbell and Scott, 2-0. Hilbert responded at the bottom of the inning with a lone run. After four scoreless innings between both teams, the Hawks found themselves one more run in the bottom of the fifth tying the game 2-2.

Liana Dion would crank a double to left field in the top of the sixth, giving ASC the perfect chance to score. Beidel would come in to pinch hit where she would drop a beautiful bunt down the third base line, advancing Dion. Dion would then score on a wild pitch, 3-2. It wasn't until the top of the seventh that the Pios recorded two more runs, 5-2.

With daylight running out, Hilbert was able to tally one run before the Pioneers cut them off and took home their second win of the day, 5-3.

ASC will be back on the field this Saturday at home against Carlow, first pitch set for 1 pm.
