Pioneers Fall Short In Day One Of Florida Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Naples, FL- The Alfred State Softball suffered their first two losses today to open the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Florida. The Pioneers lost to Bethany College 13-12 and 11-3 to University of Saint Joseph.
 
In game one, the Pioneers saw Abby Beidel starting on the mound. In game two, Marissa Ordway stepped on the mound for the Pios. Hailee Smith saw the mound both games as well, coming in as a relief.

Despite the two losses, the Pioneers bats were on fire today. Trinity Scott went 5-8 at the plate today with four runs and two RBIs. Madigan Harris went 3-6 with two steals, Abigail Marinelli going 4-8 with a triple in game two and Amy Campbell also went 3-5.

In game one, the Bisons got the first jump in the first inning, putting up one run, 1-0. Scott was quick to respond in the top of the second, tripling to left field to round Campbell in for a 1-1 tie. Scott and Nicole Youngberg scored the next two before Abbie Millard tacked on 2 RBI, scoring Madigan Harris and Marinelli, 5-1 and closing the first inning. Bethany put two more on the board in the top of the second, but the Pioneers added another run off a Marinelli single up the middle to bring Scott to home plate.
 
Top of the fourth, Bethany took the lead adding on five more runs. At the bottom of the inning, the Pios were able to grab one run off a Caley Larsen sac fly to left, scoring Campbell. The Bisons unable to be stopped grabbed five more runs in the top of the fifth, meanwhile the Pios couldn't tack on a run in the bottom,13-7. With a scoreless sixth inning from both teams, the Pios needed to find momentum in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Madigan Harris singling to the left side, kickstarting the Pios rally. Millard would then single scoring McKinlee Harris. Campbell, Scott, Youngberg and Larsen would all come up and score runners as well. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Bethany took home the win, 13-12.
 
In game two, the Pios jumped early against Saint Joseph, grabbing two runs from a Larsen RBI. Marinelli would then come up and smoke a triple down the right field line, scoring Scott. The Blue Jays were able to match the runs, adding two in the bottom of the first, 2-2. Ariel Maine would secure an RBI, scoring Harris in the top of two,3-2. The Blue Jays were quick to respond again in the bottom, tying the game 3-3.
 
After that inning, the Pios were unable to tack on anymore runs as the Blue Jays grabbed eight more runs taking home the win, 11-3.
 
The Pioneers will be back on the field tomorrow to take on Westfield State and Elms College at 9 & 11 am in Naples, FL.
