Alfred, NY- The Alfred State men's lacrosse team downed by Alfred University, 27-3 in mid-week matchup. The Pioneers fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Pioneers were led by Griffin Doan who tallied a goal and an assist. Mike Coburn and Mike Wojcik added a goal each. Payton Bliss suffered the loss after tallying 13 saves.
The Saxons would get on the board first with a man-up goal. A few minutes later, Doan picked up a ground ball and found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. AU was able to regain the lead and held onto it for the rest of the game.
Later in the second quarter, Doan found a slashing Coburn for a second Pioneer goal. Then in the third quarter, Wojcik netted an unassisted goal.
The Saxons were able to hold off the Pioneers to get the win. The Pioneers will host their home opener next Wednesday March 5th as they take on Trine at 4 pm.
