Buffalo, NY- The Alfred State men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against Buffalo State, 72-64. The Pioneers fall to 1-5 on the season.
The Pios were led by
Darius Cunningham Jr. as he tallied 24 points and seven rebounds.
Mykell Lawson added 18 points and seven rebounds, while
Elijah Kioko put in nine points and seven rebounds.
The Pioneers had the momentum early as they jumped out to an 18-8 lead. After a Buff State timeout, the Bengals fought back to cut the lead down to 26-23.
Eli Taft would spark a 9-2 run as he knocked down a three, Cunningham Jr. and Kioko put in a three each to extend the lead to 10, 35-25. From there, Buff State clawed back and cut their deficit to two going into the halftime break.
The Bengals came on strong to start the half and took their first lead of the game. The Pioneers weathered the storm and fought the cut the Buff State lead to single digits but could not get any closer as they fell, 72-64.
The Pioneers will get a few days of rest before heading to Geneseo on November 25, for a game against the Knights.
