Pioneers Sweep Wells College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Alfred State Softball team swept Wells College 15-0 and 19-2 in today's double header conference game. The Pioneers are now 7-13 and 2-6 on the season.

In Game 1:

Breena Komarnisky pitched a 5.0 inning shutout. Komarnisky threw six strikeouts, had zero hits at the plate, and was 3-4, with two RBI and one double, while at bat. This was the first no-hitter in Coach Todd Randall's impressive career as a collegiate softball coach. McKinlee Harris and Caley Larsen each had two RBI, with Larsen being a perfect 2-2. Nine of the 10 Pioneers that played scored at least one run.

In the first inning, the Pioneers got off to an impressive start off a Caley Larsen single to plate Audrey Farrell with Komarnisky and Madigan Harris following the lead, each with a double. Alfred State proceeded to blow the game open with nine runs in the second inning. In the third, Farrell reached first on error, with a throwing error to follow that brought in Olivia Kratts, Madigan Harris, and Komarnisky for scores. Both teams would go scoreless in the fourth and the Pioneers would quickly end the game with three outs in a row at the top of the fifth.

In Game 2:

Adriana DuVal got the start, pitching 5.0 innings and throwing 42 strikes. 10 Pioneers scored at least one run, with Audrey Farrell, Madigan Harris, Abigail Marinelli, and Olivia Kratts each scoring three. Farrell was a perfect 5-5 at the plate, leading the team with six RBI, and an inside-the-park home run. Abby Beidel was 3-4 with three RBI. Alfred State had an impressive 19 runs on 21 hits.

The game started off with a McKinlee Harris sacrifice fly to round Farrell in for the score in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers then went on a run in the second inning, with Beidel, Kratts, and Lauryn Engle each singling in a run. The Express responded in the top of the third with two runs off a single up the middle, but Farrell quickly shut down any hope for Wells with an inside-the-park home run. Farrell continued to lead the charge with a triple in the fourth inning for three of her six RBI on the day. The Pioneers went on a scoring spree in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a stunning 12 runs. Alfred State sealed the deal in the top of the fifth with one strikeout from DuVal and two flyouts.
