Pioneers Split The Day Against Naz

Rochester, NY- The Alfred State Softball team split the day against Nazareth to bring their record to 5-7. The Pioneers won game one 3-0, then fell in game two 9-7. Tiante Murray blasted two homeruns on the day as well.

In game one, Breena Komarnisky pitched a complete game shutout, as she scattered three hits over 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and no walks.

Murray was 2-4 on the game with a homer and an RBI, while Madigan Harris was 2-3 at the plate.

The Pioneers got on the board in the first inning. With one out Murray stepped to the plate and blasted a solo home run over the left center field fence to take a 1-0 lead.

From there Pioneers added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Ma. Harris led off with a single up the middle and stole second a few pitches later. Then an RBI single from Mckinlee Harris made it a 2-0 lead. McK. Harris advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Olivia Kratts, then went to third on a passed ball. An RBI sacrifice fly from Audrey Farrell gave ASC the 3-0 lead. The Pioneers continued to hold off the Golden Eagles to get a 3-0 win.

In game two, Adriana DuVal suffered her first loss of the season after pitching 6.0 innings and tallying two strikeouts. Murray went 2-3 with a grand slam, while Farrell went 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Caley Larsen notched a double as well.

With two outs in the first inning, Larsen tallied a double down the right field line. Lauryn Engle would reach on an error to put runners on the corners. Then an RBI single from DuVal gave the Pios a 1-0 lead.

Naz tied the game at 1-1, before ASC regained the lead in the top of the second. With two outs, Kratts singled towards the shortstop and stole second a few pitches later. Farrell then stepped to the plate and notched an RBI double to right field for the 2-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take the lead. The Pioneers put in four runs in the fourth to take back the lead. Komarisky got walked to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Kratts and Farrell notched singles to load the bases. Then after a change of pitchers, Murray blasted another ball over the fence to make it 6-4.

After Naz tied the game, Alfred State scored one run in the sixth for a 7-6 lead. The Pios notched back-to-back singles to open the sixth. Two batters later, Engle notched an RBI single towards the shortstop to take the lead. The Golden Eagles would go on to score three in the bottom half of the sixth and hold the Pioneers off in the seventh to get the win.
