ASC Grabs Big Conference Win Over Redhawks

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Men's Basketball team took home a huge conference win today against the Redhawks, 60-57. The Pioneers are now 2-7 on the season, 1-1 in conference play.

The Pioneers were led by Mike Miller who notched 20 points, three steals and three rebounds on the night. Darius Cunningham Jr. was also a brutal force defensively for the Pios as he notched 10 rebounds and scored six points.

The Redhawks came out strong in the beginning of the 1st half, immediately tallying six points. The Pios were quick to fight back as Miller notched a layup and a three pointer. The Pioneers would then go on a 10-point rally that was initiated by a Jacob Gonzalez layup in the paint, to put them up 23-11. At the end of the first half, ASC was up by 16 points, 34-18.

The Pios continued their momentum into the second half as they kept a good 10–15-point lead on La Roche. With seven minutes left in the game, the Redhawks cut the score down to only a five-point lead, 49-44. As time dwindled on the clock, La Roche was able to make it a tie game 53-53 with three minutes left. After a timeout from Alfred, Miller found the basket with eight seconds left putting the Pios back up 58-57. To secure the win, Avery Cunningham stole the ball from a Redhawk inbound which led him to get fouled, followed by two good free-throws. This left La Roche with no time to make a comeback as the Pioneers secured the win, 60-57.

ASC will be back on their home court on the 17th, tip off set for 2 pm.
