Houghton, NY- The men's track and field opens the season with a great outing at the Houghton December Classic.
In the field events, Gavin Stearns took sixth in the high jump after jumping 1.70 meters. In pole vault, Ben VanVranken jumped 4.10 meters to earn an eighth-place finish. Â Jordan White took home fifth place in long jump with a best jump of 6.57 meters. Tyler Konter followed with a 6.50-meter jump to take eighth. Isaac Rivet (6.32 meters) came in 14th. In the shot put, Tyler Lantrip was the top Pioneer, with a best throw of 12.41 meters for seventh place. Greg Raymond (11.95 meters) came in 12th, Branden Russell (11.83 meters) came in 14th, Jairo Agosto (11.80 meters) finished 15th, and Kyle Kapichok (11.24 meters) finished in 17th. Then in the weight throw, Raymond was the top Pio with a second-place finish after throwing 14.90 meters. Agosto would come in fifth with a best throw of 12.97 meters, Russell was right behind him with a best throw of 12.96 meters for sixth place. Kapichok (12.39 meters) finished 11th, Lantrip (12.01 meters) came in 12th, Kole Kisko (11.40 meters) finished 16th, Miles Kodadek (11.24 meters) came in 18th, and Jacob Szczepaniak (10.82 meters) finished 20th.
Freshmen Nick Drabinski and Jacob Phillips opened their collegiate careers with top 10 finished in the 400 dash. Drabinski took fifth with a time of 53.89, while Phillips took sixth with a time of 54.90. Ethan Hanford (56.76) would take 12th in the event as well.
