Buffalo,NY- The Alfred State Women's Basketball dropped a hard-fought game against the Buffalo State Bengals today, 77-71. The Pios are now 2-7 on the season, 1-1 in the conference.
Kirsten Merritt led the way for the Pios with a strong 15 points and three assists.
Taylor Benjamin and
Sarah Somers both garnered 12 points on the day, Benjamin tallying 8 rebounds.
The Pioneers started out the first quarter strong, but the Bengals contained the same energy. Going into the second quarter with the score 11-11, ASC and Buff State battling with who can find the basket first. The Pios went on six rally lead at the end of the quarter, consisting of Somers, Benjamin and
Jordan Niles layups, 30-28.
After halftime, both teams continue to create more momentum on the floor as the score is tight, back-and-forth. The Bengals are able to get a lead on the Pios, 46-33, until Benjamin hits a three followed by a
Taylor Searle layup. At the end of the third quarter, the Bengals are up by 11 points. The Pios are able to close the gap in the fourth but it is not enough as Buff State takes home the win, 77-71.
The Pios are on the road to Penn College on Tuesday, December 17
th, tip off set for 6 pm.
