Alfred, NY- The Alfred State Women's Basketball team dropped their midweek home contest to Elmira College with a final score of 57-66. Pios fall to 1-4 on the season.
Taylor Benjamin led the way for on both sides chipping in 12 points and seven steals. Jordan Niles followed with 11 points and two steals.Â
The Pioneers started off the game strong jumping out to a 12-4 lead over the Eagles, Mary Gibson led the way with 6 points. Elmira started chipping away at the lead ending the first quarter with a score of 13-12 in favor of the Eagles. Â
Alfred State came into the second half with some work to do, trailing 32-22.
In the fourth quarter Sarah Somers notched her first bucket of the game sparking a six-point run for the Pioneers, cutting the lead to eleven points. The Pioneers kept pushing into the final minutes of the 4th quarter, Benjamin went on a six-point streak of her own reducing the Eagles lead to seven. Ultimately the Pios fell short of a comeback with a final score of 57-66
The Pioneers are on the road for their next matchup against SUNY Poly on Saturday, November 23rd at 1pm.
