Alfred, NY- The Alfred State football team picked up their second win of the season 21-7 over the Newport News Apprentice School Builders. They move to 2-3 on the season.
Silas Egenlauf tallied eight tackles and a pick six. Donnell Hall came away with two interceptions, while David Harrell added one of his own. Chris Bergman tallied nine solo tackles and two pass deflections. Jose Vargas added a punt block.
Noah Currier led the Pioneers rushing attack with 107 yards on 11 carries. Josh Graham rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown. Nicholas Cuomo also added a touchdown. Rafael Class pulled down three receptions for 31 yards.
After a scoreless first quarters, Egenlauf got the Pios on the board first with a 25-yard pick six. Then the Alexander Caufield extra-point would give ASC the 7-0 lead going into halftime.
The Pioneers got on the board again in the third quarter, after a blocked punt by Vargas. The blocked punt set the Pios up on the eight-yard line, and in only took Cuomo one play to get in the endzone. The extra-point gave ASC the 14-0 lead.
The Builders got on the board with a touchdown in the middle of the fourth, and Alfred State answered with a two play 65-yard drive on their next possession. On second and five from their own 40, Graham got the ball on the handoff, broke four tackles and was off to the races for the Pioneers touchdown. ASC was able to hold of the Builders the rest of the game to get the 21-7 win.
The Pioneers are back on the road next Saturday 10/12 as they take on Curry College at Curry College at 12 pm.
