Lovell Drives in Seven at Cobleskill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Krista Lovell (Addison) drove in seven as the Alfred State battled SUNY Cobleskill in a pair of high scoring games on Tuesday. The Tigers took the opener 11-6 and the nightcap 10-8.

In the opener, the Tigers built a 9-0 lead with a single run in the 1st, two in the 2nd, and six in the 4th. With their back to the wall the Pioneers rallied and got back into the game with a big 5th inning. Katrina Catellier (Troy/Doane Stuart) and Emma Smithers (Waterloo) both scored on fielding errors and Lovell cut it to 9-6 when she hit a grand slam. The Tigers went to the bullpen and were able to hold the blue & gold from getting any closer. Cobleskill added two insurance runs in the 6th.

The Pioneers were held to just four hits in the game. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) struck out ten on the mound.

The nightcap featured runs in nine of the 13 half innings. Fisher got the scoring going in the first when she collected a two-RBI double. The Tigers answered back with four runs of their own in the 1st and two more in the 2nd.

In the 3rd, Lovell collected a RBI single, was part of a double steal that saw Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic), and scored on error to draw the Pioneers to 6-5. Sarah Boyce (Cortland) tied it up with a RBI single in the 4th.

In the bottom of the 4th, Cobleskill took back the lead with a single run and added another run in the 5th. Lovell drove home two and tied the game at 8-8 with a single in the 6th.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th when they collected a one-out, two-RBI double. In the 7th, the Pioneers put the tying runner on base with two outs but couldn't plate any more runs.

The top of the Pioneer lineup, Boyce, Wonica, and Lovell, finished 7 for 10 in the game. Boyce was 3 for 4 with a RBI and three runs scored, Wonica was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, and Lovell was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.

The Pioneers are back in AMCC action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
