Lady Pioneers Fall at Elmira

The Alfred State offense could not get the clutch hit in game one and then was held to just one hit in the nightcap as Elmira earned the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles won 3-1 and 8-0 to improve to 7-11.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers collected 10 hits but stranded eight in the game. Elmira scored two runs in the 2nd on back-to-back RBI hits by Jacquely Heggie and Katie McDougal. They added an insurance run in the 4th on a RBI single by Chelsea Storch. Amanda Rockefeller (Bolivar Richburg) cut it to 3-1 when singled home a run in the 6th but the blue & gold could not get any closer.

Rockefeller, Stormi Kruger (Medina), and Courtney McDaniel (Arkport) were each 2 for 3 for Alfred State while Katie Jackson (Rome, PA) and Allison Gibson (Arkport) were 2 for 4.

In the nigthcap, the Eagles scored three runs in the 2nd and one in the 4th but put the game out of reach with four more in the 6th. Elmira collected 10 hits while Emily Carlin held the Pioneers to just one hit, a Jackson bunt single in the 3rd.

The Lady Pioneers are back at it on Thursday when they open a six-game homestand with a 3 p.m. doubleheader with Nazareth.
