Alfred State and SUNY Canton split the first of a pair of weekend doubleheaders. The Lady Pioneers won the opener 4-2 while the Lady Kangaroos won the nightcap 10-0.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers took advantage of three walks and three Kangaroo errors to jump out to a 4-1 lead after two innings. Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) made it stand, tossing a complete game three hitter. She allowed two earned runs, walked four and struck out three.

Alfred State was held to just three hits including a double by Allison Gibson (Arkport).

Canton's offense exploded for four runs in the 3rd and put the game out of reach with six runs in the 4th. In those two innings the Kangaroos collected ten hits, including five doubles.

Shannon Dowling was 3 for 3, Stefanie Miller was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, and Kristyn Reynolds was 2 for 2 with a RBI for the Kangaroos.

Kelsey Morgan allowed just one single (to Katie Jackson - Troy, PA) in the complete game victory. She struck out eight and walked only two.

The same two teams battle again on Sunday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for Noon.
