The Alfred State softball team battled tough vs. Geneva and Wisconsin-Superior but was unable to pick up the victories. Geneva scored three in the 6th to rally for a 3-1 lead and Superior scored eight unanswered runs in a 10-4 victory.

In the opener vs. Geneva, neither team could get on the board until the 4th inning when Stormi Kruger (Medina) singled home Claire Hartman (Alden). In the 6th, the Lady Pioneers loaded the bases with two outs but could not add to the lead. The Golden Tornadoes plated three runs in the 6th when Taylor Yarletts tied the game with a bases loaded walk and Hannah Logan collected the game-winning single one batter later. Geneva added an insurance run following a Pioneer error.

Hartman led the offense with a 3 for 4 day while Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) allowed just six hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.

Logan and Lucia Fee were each 2 for 3 for Geneva.

In the nightcap vs. Superior, Alfred answered the Yellowjackets two runs in the 1st with four of their own. Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone), Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene), and Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) all collected RBI singles in the inning.

Superior took the lead with three runs in the 3rd and led 6-4 in the 6th when the Lady Pioneers threatened to tie the game. Alfred State put runners on 2nd and 3rd but was unable to score. The Yellowjackets added four insurance runs in the 7th to put the game out of reach.

Hanrahan was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4. Every starter collected a hit.

Katie Wilke and Sally Linzmeir each were 3 for 5 with a RBI for Superior.

The Lady Pioneers continue their spring training trip to Ft. Myers, FL on Tuesday when they battle Nichols at 1 p.m. and Manchester at 3 p.m.
