The Alfred State softball team earned their first doubleheader sweep of the season on Sunday defeating SUNY Delhi 2-0 and 6-3. The Lady Pioneers improve to 7-25 on the year and have won three of their last four.
In the opener, Kristen Potter (Harrison Valley, PA/Northern Potter) threw a complete game shutout. She allowed six hits, didn't walk a batter, and struck out three.
The Pioneers scored single runs in the 3rd and 5th. In the 3rd, Alyssa Roache (Sherman) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a wild pitch. In the 5th, Rachel Slentz (Edmeston) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a squeeze bunt by Lynn Wood (Westfield).
Alfred scored three runs in the 2nd and scored three more in the 4th after Delhi tied the game at 3-3 with three in their half of the 4th.
In the 2nd, Roache had a RBI single and two more runs scored on a throwing error. Wood executed another safety squeeze to score a run in the 4th and two more runs scored on another throwing error.
Clarissa Swain (Dansville) earned the win in the nightcap with a five-hit complete game. She allowed three runs and struck out seven. Potter was 2 for 3 at the plate.
The blue & gold have two scheduled doubleheaders left in their 2013 season. They travel to Erie CC for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday and then host Penn College on Thursday starting at 3 p.m.
