Pioneers Fall To Former Conference Rivals PS Behrend

Erie, PA – The Alfred State men's soccer team suffered a hard-fought 2-1 loss to former conference rival Penn State Behrend on Saturday. The Pioneers move to 0-1-1 on the season.

David Adedoyin scored the lone goal for the Pioneers, his first of the season, while Lukas Bandurski recorded one save in goal.

The Lions struck first with a goal in the opening 10 minutes of the match. The teams battled back and forth throughout the remainder of the first half, with Behrend taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

Alfred State came out aggressively in the second half and earned a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box. Adedoyin converted the opportunity in the 55th minute, beating the goalkeeper to even the score at 1-1.

Following more back-and-forth action, the Pioneers were reduced to 10 men after receiving a red card. Penn State Behrend capitalized late, converting a penalty kick in the 85th minute to regain the lead, 2-1. The Lions then held on for the remainder of the match to secure the victory.

The Pioneers return to action on September 9 as they travel to Keuka Park, NY, to face the Keuka Wolves. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
