ALFRED, N.Y. – The Alfred State men's soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 draw against Westminster (Pa.) on Saturday. The Pioneers move to 0-0-1 on the year.
Ryan Masi scored the lone goal for Alfred State, while Lucas Jorgenson recorded an assist. Lukas Bandurski earned the start in goal and made two saves.
After a scoreless first half that featured strong play from both sides, the Pioneers had an opportunity to take the lead in the 64th minute but were unable to convert a penalty kick. Westminster capitalized shortly thereafter, breaking the deadlock in the 67th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
Alfred State responded when Masi found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1. Jorgenson was credited with the assist on the equalizer.
Neither team was able to find a winner in the closing minutes, and the match ended in a draw.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, September 6, when they travel to Penn State Behrend. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
