ELMIRA, NY – The Alfred State men's soccer team battled against Elmira but fell just short in a 1-0 non-conference matchup.
The Pioneers controlled much of the play throughout the match, recording a 12-10 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in corner kicks. Alfred State held a 6-2 shot advantage in the opening half and continued to pressure the Soaring Eagles throughout the second period.
Despite the offensive momentum, the game remained scoreless until late in regulation. Elmira broke the deadlock in the 88th minute, scoring at the 87:38 mark for the match's lone goal.
The Pioneers generated four shots on goal in the contest, led by
Colin Martin, who finished with a team-high three shots and two shots on target.
Wyatt Evingham and
David Adedoyin also recorded shots
on goal for Alfred State.
In net,
Lukas Bandurski had another strong performance for the Pioneers, making five saves while keeping the match scoreless through more than 87 minutes of play. Four of his five saves came during a busy second half.
With the loss, Alfred St. moves to 0-6-2 on the season. The Pioneers will have a week to rest and recover before starting conference play on Wednesday September 30
th as Morrisville comes to town.
