Alfred, NY – The Alfred State men's soccer team saw a two-goal lead slip away late as SUNY Morrisville scored the equalizer in the final minute of regulation, resulting in a 3-3 SUNYAC draw Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.

The Pioneers struck early and controlled much of the opening half. Just 4:29 into the match, Tommy Dimaggio opened the scoring off an assist from Josh Lewandusky to give Alfred State a 1-0 advantage. Later in the half, Dimaggio found the back of the net again in the 38th minute, finishing a pass from Evan Braunscheidel to send the Pioneers into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Alfred State outshot the Mustangs 9-4 in the opening half and appeared to be in control heading into the break.

The Mustangs answered in the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 65th minute. The Pioneers regained momentum 10 minutes later after earning a penalty kick, and Lewandusky converted from the spot for his third goal of the season to restore a two-goal cushion at 3-1.

The Mustangs refused to go away, however, as they scored again less than two minutes after Lewandusky's goal to make it 3-2. Alfred State continued to defend the lead behind several key saves from goalkeeper Lukas Bandurski, but Morrisville found the equalizer with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation to force the 3-3 draw.

Dimaggio led the Pioneers offensively with two goals on four shots, while Lewandusky finished with a goal and an assist. Braunscheidel added an assist, and Bandurski made six saves in net.

Following the match, head coach Vince Correa reflected on the result.

"Yeah, it was tough. You play in a game like that, you play enough to win, but then we just made way too many mistakes. Going up 3-1, we should've been able to finish it out. Unfortunately, it didn't happen today, but I am proud of the guys. They work really hard, and we will learn from this. The upside is that we got a point in the SUNYAC, so we move forward."

The Pioneers will hit the road on Saturday October 3rd as they head to SUNY Fredonia for a match at 1 pm.
