ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred State women's volleyball team bounced back in convincing fashion Friday evening, sweeping Nazareth 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) after falling to St. John Fisher 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 17-25). With today's split Pioneers move to 7-5 on the season.
Game 2 – 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22)
Alayna Tomlinson led the Alfred State attack with 13 kills, nine digs, and three service aces while hitting .235.
Brianny Rodriguez added eight kills and a .353 hitting percentage, while
Gloria Stem finished with nine kills, eight digs, and two service aces.
Isabel Carew orchestrated the offense with 31 assists, while
Ava Wickes recorded a team-high 11 digs. At the net,
Rebecca Jackson contributed four kills and three blocks as the Pioneers totaled 36 kills, 33 assists, 40 digs, 10 service aces, and four total blocks.
After falling behind 3-0 to open the set, Alfred State settled in and used a 10-2 run midway through the first set to seize control. Consecutive aces from
Caley Larsen helped spark the rally before the Pioneers closed the set on an 8-0 run, highlighted by three late kills from Tomlinson, to claim a 25-16 victory.
The second set featured 11 ties as neither side could create separation early. With the score knotted at 16-16, Alfred State took control behind strong serving and timely offense from Tomlinson and Stem.
The Pioneers scored nine of the final 12 points, including back-to-back aces from Tomlinson, to secure a 25-19 win and a two-set advantage.
Nazareth pushed Alfred State in the third set, building a 21-20 lead late in the frame. The Pioneers responded under pressure, scoring five of the final six points. A kill from Rodriguez tied the set, Tomlinson delivered two late kills, and a block by Jackson and Rodriguez on match point sealed the 25-22 victory and the straight-set sweep.

Stem led the way in the game against St. John Fisher as she tallied nine kills. Tomlinson tallied seven kills, three aces, and five digs. Carew had a team high 25 assists, while Wickes led the backline with six digs,
Alfred State returns to action tomorrow at Nazareth as they take on SUNY Delhi at 2 pm to finish this weekends action.
