Pioneers End Weekend In Rochester With A Sweep Over Delhi

ROCHESTER, NY – The Alfred State women's volleyball team closed out its weekend in dominant fashion on Saturday, sweeping SUNY Delhi 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-11). The victory improved the Pioneers to 8-5 on the season.

Rebecca Jackson dominated the match, posting 11 kills, one block and one assist. Alayna Tomlinson secured the Pioneers 10 kills and 3 aces. Brianny Rodriguez scored seven kills and one block. Ava Wickes tallied eight digs and six aces. Isabel Carew notched an impressive 28 assists and eight digs. The Pioneers controlled the match from start to finish, hitting .244 as a team while holding the Broncos to a -.014-attack percentage.

Rebecca Jackson led the offensive attack with 11 kills on 18 attempts while committing just one error, finishing with an impressive .556 hitting percentage. Alayna Tomlinson added 10 kills, three service aces, and five digs, while Brianny Rodriguez contributed seven kills and hit .250. Caitlyn Gilman chipped in four kills and two blocks.

Setter Isabel Carew orchestrated the offense with 28 assists and eight digs, while Ava Wickes anchored the defense with eight digs and a match-high six service aces. Rachel Oliveri and Caley Larsen added two aces apiece, helping the Pioneers total 14 service aces in the victory.

The opening set was closely contested early, with six ties before Alfred State broke a 12-12 deadlock with a 10-3 run. Service aces from Tomlinson, Wickes, and Larsen helped fuel the surge as the Pioneers pulled away for a 25-19 victory.

Alfred State seized control in the second set behind a nine-point service run from Kendall Tompkins. The Pioneers turned a 3-3 tie into a 12-3 advantage and never looked back. Jackson recorded four kills in the frame as Alfred State claimed a 25-16 win and moved within a set of the sweep.

The Pioneers were even more dominant in the third set. After falling behind 2-0, Alfred State responded with a 12-1 run powered by Tomlinson and Wickes from the service line. The lead eventually grew to 20-7 before the Pioneers finished off the match with a 25-11 victory.

With the win, Alfred State completed a strong weekend in Rochester, earning back-to-back sweeps over Nazareth and SUNY Delhi.

The Pioneers will return home on Thursday September 24th as they take on Houghton at 7 pm.
