Johnstown, PA- The Alfred State baseball team suffered a loss in game one of the AMCC tournament against Mount Aloysius, 12-4. The Pioneers fall to 15-26 on the season.
Jordan Hughes went 1-3 on the day with a two-run homerun.
Sean Connor went 1-4 with his lone hit being a solo homerun.
Logan Lutz would suffer the loss on the mound.
After a few scoreless innings to start the game, the Pios got on the board first in the third as they scored one run. With one out,
Christian Morrison tallied a single down the left field line.
Matty Eygabroad followed with a bunt single toward third base and went to second on an error. A few plays later, Morrison would come home to score on a balk for the 1-0 lead.
The Mounties answered with five runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Alfred State cut into the deficit after getting three runs across.
Frank Grad notched a leadoff single up the middle. Hughes followed with a first pitch bomb to right center to make it an 8-3 game. Connor would then step in the box and tally a solo blast over the center field fence to cut the deficit to four, 8-4.
Mt. Aloysius was able to hold off the Pioneers offense while adding runs to their lead to secure the 12-4 win.
The Pioneers will be facing the loser of tonight's Pitt-Greensburg vs Pitt-Bradford tomorrow morning at 10 am.
