Johnstwon, PA- The Alfred State baseball team survives and advances to Game 8 of the AMCC Tournament after going 2-0 on the day. The Pioneers took down Pitt-Bradford 4-3 before taking down Mt. Aloysius 15-4.
Game 3: Alfred State 4 – Pitt-Bradford 3
Jordan Hughes went 2-3 with one RBI at the plate. He also picked up the win on the mound, as he pitched a complete 9.0 inning game scattering two earned runs over seven hits with seven strikeouts.
James Camacho went 1-1 with a double and two RBIs.
Frank Grad notched a triple after going 2-5, while
Zach Young tallied an RBI double.
After three scoreless innings, the Panthers struck first with two runs in the fourth. The Pioneers responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Grad led off with a triple to right field. Young followed with his RBI double to cut to deficit to one, 2-1. After a change of pitchers, Young would go to third on a wild pitch, before an RBI single from Hughes tied the game at 2-2.
Matty Eygabroad laid down a bunt single. A few pitches later, the Pioneers had a successful double steal to get two into scoring position. Then, Camacho notched a two RBI double down the left field line to take the 4-2 lead.
The Pioneers was able to hold on to the lead after only allowing one Pitt-Bradford run in the seventh, to secure the 4-3 win and advance to Game 6.
Game 6: Alfred State 15 - Mt. Aloysius 4
Connor led the way as he went 4-5 with a homerun and six RBIs.
Christian Morrison went 1-4 with his lone hit being a homerun with two RBIs. Eygabroad went 3-5 with a double and two RBIs, while
Aiden Cowburn went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Nathan Lucks got the win on the mound, after pitching a complete 9.0 inning game. He scattered two earned runs over 12 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Mounties took an early lead after scoring a run in the first. Alfred State took the lead in the third as they got three runs across. With one out,
Aiden Cowburn doubled down the right field line. Morrison followed with his first homerun of the season to give ASC the 2-1 lead. Grad would then notch a single toward second base before stealing second a few pitches later. He went to third on a groundout, and
Sean Connor made it a 3-1 game with an RBI single to center field.
ASC continued to add to their lead in the fifth. The Pios started their at-bat with three singles that loaded the bases. Hughes followed with an RBI groundout for the 4-1 lead. Eygabroad then tallied a two RBI double down the left field line for the 6-1 lead. After a Mounties pitching change,
Anthony Snyder got walked. Then with runners on the corners, an RBI sacrifice fly from
Logan Lutz scored a run. Cowburn followed with a single through the right side and went to second on the throw to keep runners in scoring position. The Pios scored a run on a wild pitch for the 8-1 lead.
The Pioneers kept their bats hot in the sixth as they added four runs. Grad reached on a dropped fly, and Young got walked to follow. Then with a 0-2 count, Connor hit a moonshot over the left field fence to make it an 11-1 game. After a change of pitchers for the Mounties, Hughes got hit by a pitch before advancing to second on a wild pitch. A base hit from Eygabroad put runners on the corners, and Hughes would score on a groundout for the 12-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Alfred State continued to add to their lead. With one out, Morrison got walked, before Grad tallied a single on a bunt. Both runners advanced to a fly out, before Connor notched a two RBI single for the 14-1 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth ASC added one more insurance run to their lead. With two outs, Lutz put in a double to left field. He would score on an RBI double from Cowburn for the 15-1 lead.
In the ninth, the Mounties was able to score three runs but could not get any closer as the Pioneers won 15-4. The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow at 2 pm as they take on the #2 seeded Hilbert Hawks.
