Big Day From Connor & Lutz Powered Pioneers Past RIT

Rochester, NY- The Alfred State baseball team powered past RIT in their mid-week matchup 13-1. The Pioneers move to 12-18 on the season.

Sean Connor led the way today as he went 4-5 with two home runs, a double, and six RBIs. Joshua Gardner went 2-4 with three RBIs, while Matty Eygabroad went 1-3 with his lone hit being a homerun for two RBIs. Logan Lutz got his first collegiate win on the mound as he pitched 7.0 innings only allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

The Pioneers got on the broad first as they scored two runs in their first at-bat. Eygabroad led off with a solo bomb for the 1-0 lead. Frank Grad got hit by pitch to follow and three batters later James Camacho notched a single to center field. Then Connor put in an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game.

Then in the second inning, Dylan DeMaro led off with a bunt single, then stole second before moving to third on a wild pitch. He would score on a RBI fielder's choice by Eygabroad for the 3-0 lead.  RIT made it a 3-1 game after scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning. A few innings later, ASC scored two runs in the fifth. With one out Camacho got walked and Connor followed with a two-run bomb to left center to make it a 5-1 game.

The Pioneers broke the game open in the sixth as they scored six runs. Michael Ambroggio got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, before Eygabroad got walked. After a sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, Gardner tallied a two RBI single to left field for the 7-1 lead.  Gardner would score on a Jordan Hughes double. Camacho would get walked before Connor tallied his second homerun of the day to extend the Pios lead to 11-1.

After a three and out, the Pioneers added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Eygabroad got walked to lead off the inning. Grad followed with a single, before Gardner notched an RBI single to left field for the 12-1 lead. Then Grad would come home to score on an RBI groundout by Hughes.

Alfred State would continue to hold off the Tigers as they got the 13-1 win. The Pioneers are set to host their home opening doubleheader against Hilbert on Sunday with first pitch at 1 pm.
