A Three Homerun Day Powered The Pioneers Past The Hawks

Hamburg, NY- The Alfred State baseball team used a big eighth inning to take down the Hilbert Hawks, 7-5. The Pioneers moved to 11-18 on the season and 6-2 in conference play.

Matty Eygabroad led the way as he went 4-5 with two homers and a double for three RBIs. Sean Connor went 1-1 with a home run and three RBIs. On the mound, Nathan Lucks picked up the win as he pitched 7.0 innings only allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and three strikeouts. Dominic Morsch came in relief and got the save after pitching 2.0 innings only giving up one hit.

The Hawks got on the broad first with a run in the bottom of the second. The Pios answered in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. Dylan DeMaro led off with a single to right field two batters later, Eygabroad tied the game with an RBI double to left field.

Hilbert regained the lead as they scored one run in the third. Eygabroad helped ASC respond with a solo bomb in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

After the Hawks scored one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh, Alfred State took their first lead of the game after scoring five runs in the eighth. Eygabroad led off with his second solo blast of the day. Two batters later, James Camacho tallied a single to center field. After a hit by pitch, Gavin Lasko notched an RBI single to make it a 5-4 game. Then with two on base, Connor stepped in the box and hit a three-run blast  to give the Pios the 7-5 lead.

From the Alfred State held the Hawks scoreless to take the series opening win, 7-5. The Pioneers will head to Rochester tomorrow for a game against RIT with first pitch scheduled for 4 pm.
