Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State Baseball team secured a hard-fought victory over Haverford, 4-3. The Pioneers move to 4-11 on the season.
Logan Lutz had a great outing as he went 3-4.
Gavin Lasko went 2-5 with a double, while
Christian Morrison went 2-2. On the mound,
Zackery Nelson came in relief and picked up the win as he pitched 3.1 innings only allowing one hit, with two strikeouts.
Haverford was able to score one run in their first at-bat to take the 1-0 lead. The Pioneers answered with two runs in the third to make it a 2-1 game.
Frank Grad got walked, and
Zach Young got hit by pitch to start the third. After a sacrifice bunt from Lutz advanced both runners,
Jordan Hughes tallied an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1-1. A few pitches later, Young scored on a passed ball to take the 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Pios added another run to their lead. Lutz led off with a single through the left side. Then a Hughes hit by pitch, and a Lasko single loaded the bases. Morrison would get hit by a pitch to score a run, 3-1.
Haverford tied the game in the sixth, but the Pioneers answered in the seventh to regain the lead. Lasko led off the seventh with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases, an RBI groundout from
Matty Eygabroad gave ASC the 4-3 lead.
Alfred State was able to hold off Haverford the rest of the game to take the 4-3 win. The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow at noon as they take on Hiram.
