Pioneers Suffered A Loss On Day Three

Fort Myers, FL- The Alfred State baseball team falls in a hard fought battle against Hiram, 10-3. The Pioneers move to 4-12 on the year.

Jordan Hughes went 2-3, while Zach Young went 2-4. Frank Grad went 1-4 with a double. Daniel Lewis suffered the loss on the mound.

The Pioneers got on the board first as they scored two runs in the top of the first. Grad reached on an error to lead off the inning. Young followed with a single to left field. Two batters later, Hughes tallied an RBI single for the 1-0 lead. After the second out, Aiden Cowburn notched an RBI single to take the 2-0 lead.

The Terries answered with six runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-2 lead. They added one more run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth for the 7-2 lead.

The Pios cut into the deficit in the fifth as the got one run across. With one out, Grad put in his double to left center. Two batters later, Logan Lutz notched an RBI single to make it a 7-3 game.

Hiram was able to hold off the Pioneers to take the 10-3 win. Alfred State will have Wednesday off, and will return to action on Thursday at 9 am for a doubleheader against Rockford.
